Which F1 drivers live in Monaco? F1 and Monaco seem to go hand in hand but why do so many drivers live in this beautiful country?
Monaco seems to have it all: The weather, the sea, the tax haven (yep, we said it!). It seems to be the most perfect place on earth! But how many of our beloved Formula 1 drivers have made the move across the pond?
In this blog, our experts share which of the best F1 drivers live in Monaco and also explain why they may be lured to this location.
Which F1 Drivers Live In Monaco?
So, let’s take a look at the F1 drivers who now live in Monaco.
- Charles Leclerc
- Lando Norris
- Lewis Hamilton
- Max Verstappen
- Valtteri Bottas
- George Russell
- Alex Albon
- Daniel Ricciardo
- Sergio Perez
- Nico Hulkenberg
Charles Leclerc - Ferrari
Of course, we had to start with Charles Leclerc! For those of you who don’t know, he’s actually a citizen of the country as he was born there. The Ferrari driver is said to live in the Jardin Exotique area.
We know what you’re thinking: So, he should be winning the Monaco race every year then?! Well, he won it for the first time in 2024… it was a long time coming.
Lando Norris - McLaren
Another F1 driver who lives in Monaco is Lando Norris. He reportedly moved from Surrey to Monte-Carlo in 2021 due to financial reasons.
Lewis Hamilton - Ferrari
Leclerc’s new 2025 F1 teammate, Lewis Hamilton, is another Monaco resident. He moved to Monte-Carlo from Switzerland all the way back in 2012!
Max Verstappen - Red Bull
Since 2015, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has been living in Monaco’s Fontvielle. He had previously been living in Belgium and denied that he moved for financial reasons.
He is expected to move to the new coastal district of Monaco, Maraterra when it is completed later this year.
Valtteri Bottas - Mercedes
The new third driver for Mercedes resides in Port Hercule. Aside from racing, the Finnish driver also loves cycling and is often seen on the haute, moyenne, or basse Corniche.
He even competed in the first-ever Beking event back in 2021!
George Russell - Mercedes
It’s unknown when exactly George Russell moved to Monaco, but he has previously stated his love for the area.
Alex Albon - Williams
Alex Albon lives just three minutes away from the paddock when it’s the Monaco Grand Prix! In an interview, he revealed that he moved to the area due to financial reasons as he wants ‘to keep his money’.
He added:
“Beyond the obvious reasons, Monaco is just a nice place, the weather is consistently nice and it’s quite quiet.”
Daniel Ricciardo
Obviously, Danny Ricc had a difficult time last season, but hopefully, he can spend his extra time getting to take in the beautiful views of Monaco.
Sergio Perez
Yet another F1 driver who had a tricky previous season, maybe Sergio Perez can join Ricciardo in taking in the gorgeous landscape.
Nico Hulkenberg - Kick Sauber
According to the new Kick Sauber driver, the beauty of Monaco was the main reason to move to the Principality. However, we all know Hulkenberg’s pre-race ritual.
He loves to sleep at home the night before a race, and living in Monaco allows him to do just that!
Why Do F1 Drivers Choose to Live in Monaco?
Now we know which Formula 1 drivers live in Monaco, let’s explore why they may choose to live in this location.
Climate
It goes without saying really, but the weather in Monaco is far (far) greater than that in the UK. So much so, that it is sunny in Monaco for 300 days of the year!
Therefore, of course, the weather in this country is definitely an attractive quality beyond just F1.
Privacy
Monaco has some unique privacy laws as well as high-security standards that make it one of the safest countries in the world. Therefore, it provides F1 drivers with a sense of normalcy (and safety) that they cannot get in other countries.
There are also far more police compared to the population with CCTV cameras everywhere covering everyone’s moves.
Financial Benefits
We’d be remiss if we did not discuss the financial benefits of living in Monaco. The government does not charge federal income tax at all.
But it’s not all rainbows and sunshine. For example, residents must be ‘financially liquid’ at all times and have a minimum of €500,000 available at any moment! These rules are not in place for native Monaco residents, like Leclerc - only those wanting to move to the country.
Lifestyle
Sure, living in Monaco may be expensive but the lifestyle that comes with this is beyond worth it.
Spectacular sea views, a luxurious harbour packed with yachts, and gorgeous restaurants to be joined by friends… or teammates! With a number of F1 drivers living in Monaco, it allows for a wonderful social life (as although they are rivals, they do get on when off the race track).
Plus, the beautiful mountain area is great for hiking or cycling - maybe even bumping into Bottas!
Logistics
Monaco is just 15 miles from Nice airport making it the perfect location for a frequent traveller… just like an F1 driver!
Of course, when the F1 comes to Monaco each year it’s so easy for drivers to just head back to their homes after the race.
